Melinda (Mendi) Simon was recently named director of communications at Alderson-Broaddus College.
"With Melinda's appointment, I am pleased to welcome back one of our own," said Stephen Markwood, A-B's president. "As an undergraduate, she had an extraordinary academic and leadership record. I know she will bring a special touch of enthusiasm to her assignment." Simon began her official duties on July 1.
Simon is a summa cum laude graduate of A-B College and earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications. While at A-B, she was an active member of the championship speech and debate team and earned numerous awards. During her senior season, Simon was named the Lincoln-Douglas Debate champion of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Forensics Association and the Collegiate Forensic Association, a 10-state regional organization. At CFA, she was also named champion of prose interpretation, persuasion and was runner-up in communication analysis.
Simon earned several academic awards as a student at A-B including the Outstanding Senior Female Award in the Humanities Division, the Humanities Academic Award for the highest grade point average, a Student Leadership Award for her contributions to the A-B Forensics Team, and the Speech, Theater and Broadcasting Award. Simon was named to the dean’s list, president’s list and is a member of the Silver Key Society, a campus honorary.
Prior to her employment with A-B College, Simon worked as a paralegal for the law firm of Mullens & McGuire PLLC in Philippi and as a contract paralegal for a Washington, D.C., law firm. She is also a former reporter/writer/editor for the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram. She resides in Philippi with her husband, Gary, and two children, Jordan and Isaiah.
